The “New Wood Competition 2025” features a variety of packaging solutions, as well as a phone stand, a coffin made from recycled wood, a wall element and a green canopy.

“The broad range of entries shows that innovations in wood materials are starting to appear widely in all sorts of everyday products. The nominated entries also include several solutions that make use of by-products and recycled materials,” says Virpi Korhonen, head of the “New Wood” project.

All the entries involve innovative uses of wood and align with sustainable development goals; the wood materials used in them may already be familiar, but the commercial product or application must be new.

“The aim of the competition is to raise awareness of innovation in the wood bioeconomy and to seek new solutions to global problems,” V. Korhonen stresses.

“New Wood” and forest.fi are working together to publish articles about new wood products on the forest.fi innovation page, which also carries articles on all nineteen inventions submitted to the “New Wood Competition 2025”.

The “New Wood Competition” is being held for the sixth year. The winner will be chosen by a jury. The winner and the public's favourite will be announced on 22 October 2025 at Finlandia Hall in Helsinki, at the “Forest Days” (Metsäpäivät) event organised by the Finnish Forest Association. Among those taking part in the public vote, a Mysoda glass carbonation device made from wood composite will be drawn as a prize.
