The motto of the 2025 prize: The contribution of civil society – involving everyone in the green transition.

The Nordic Council invites the public to nominate candidates for the environment prize (DKK 300,000).

Nomination criteria

The prize is awarded to a Nordic company, organisation or individual that has integrated care for the environment into its business or work in an exemplary way, or that has made an exceptionally positive contribution in the field of the environment in some other way. The winner must have a Nordic perspective and operate in the Nordic region, as well as and/or partly outside the region. The assessment committee will also take into account how inclusive and innovative the initiative is and whether it has the potential to inspire and expand its activities internationally.

2025

This year the jury has chosen a theme to draw attention to the fact that every part of society has a role to play in tackling climate change, delivering the green transition and taking the measures needed to protect, manage and restore ecosystems.

“An active and engaged civil society is a prerequisite for the green transition and is vital in order to make the necessary improvements to nature and the environment,” says the chair of the jury, Anna Jöborn.

The nomination process for the Nordic Council Environment Prize is open, and anyone may put forward a candidate.

The deadline is 30 April.

The prize and the award ceremony

The nominated candidates will be announced in June. The DKK 300,000 prize will be presented at a ceremony in Stockholm during the Nordic Council session in October.
