On 6 July, the Cabinet of Ministers (CM) reviewed and approved the draft CM order "On the reorganisation of Malnava College", the aim of which is to promote the development and continuity of education programmes in the field of agriculture by transferring Malnava College, which is currently an agency under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Science, to the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU) from 1 January 2022.

From 1 January 2022, the college will continue to exist as an agency of the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, titled "Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies Malnava College".

"With its 100-year historical experience, Malnava College is one of the oldest agricultural schools in Latvia, having successfully managed to preserve and develop agricultural education programmes throughout various eras. It is a great honour for LLU that, henceforth, the largest and most significant vocational education institution of this specialisation in Eastern Latvia will be under LLU's supervision," emphasises LLU Rector Irina Pilvere.

Discussions regarding the reorganisation of Malnava College began back in 2019. Thanks to the active involvement of the Ministry of Agriculture and the efforts of the Minister for Education and Science, Anita Muižniece, the discussion process concluded successfully with a logical outcome, and thus, today, the CM reached the decision to integrate the college into a unified agricultural education system.
