LBTU announces open competition for the dean posts of four faculties

In order to attract strategically minded, academically experienced professionals with an interest in the development of the sector, who would strengthen the position of the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU) as a leading science university in Latvia and internationally, LBTU is announcing an open competition for the dean posts of four faculties – the Faculty of Forest and Environmental Sciences (MVZF), the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies (IITF), the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (VMF) and the Faculty of Economics and Social Development (ESAF).

Applicants must meet a number of essential requirements. A candidate must hold a doctoral degree in the fields covered by the relevant faculty or in related disciplines, must understand how higher education institutions and research institutions operate, and experience in a management post is desirable. Good knowledge and understanding of higher education and science policy, skills in strategic planning and management, as well as excellent command of the official language and of English are required. Candidates are expected to have an impeccable reputation and a willingness to take an active part in the development of the faculty and thereby of the whole university.

The duties of a faculty dean include planning and managing the faculty's strategic development, organising the work of academic and administrative staff, ensuring the development of study programmes, coordinating research directions, and fostering cooperation with companies in the sector, state and local government institutions, as well as international partners. The dean also represents the faculty in LBTU's management structures and decision-making bodies.

Applicants are invited to submit their applications by 2 June 2025, sending them to the email address: konkurss@lbtu.lv. The application must include a letter of motivation, a detailed curriculum vitae in Europass format, a vision for the faculty's development and its strategic priorities (no more than two A4 pages), and copies of documents certifying the doctoral degree.

The competition will be held in two rounds – first the applications will be assessed for compliance with the formal requirements, followed by individual interviews with the nomination committee, in which candidates will present their vision for the faculty's development and answer questions, including in English. Taking into account the committee's proposal and the advisory opinion of the faculty councils, the rector will take the final decision on appointing the dean.

The competition regulations are available on the LBTU website, using this link.
