In response to an appeal by the Ukrainian Embassy in Latvia, AS Latvijas valsts meži (LVM) will donate 468 used, good-condition computers worth nearly 32 thousand euros to children living in Ukraine.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia will deliver the computer equipment donated by LVM to schoolchildren living in the Chernihiv region to support remote learning. “To ensure the company’s operations, computer equipment is replaced with newer hardware on average every five years, which meets current security and performance requirements, as LVM employees work daily with various specific software as well as large volumes of data. These computers will prove very useful for schoolchildren to facilitate their studies, especially in wartime conditions,” said LVM board member Māris Kuzmins as he delivered the equipment to the premises of the Ukrainian Embassy.
“We must not get used to war, we must not take for granted the fact that the people of Ukraine are currently fighting for us, the people of Latvia as well – by protecting our country and our freedom too. We must continue to help Ukraine in every possible way,” emphasised M. Kuzmins.
The donation agreement was signed in mid-December by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Latvia, Anatolii Kutselov, and the Chairman of the LVM Board, Pēters Putniņš, who also discussed future cooperation plans during the meeting.
LVM has been associated with Ukraine for several years. In December 2021, LVM signed a memorandum of cooperation with the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine, within the framework of which several experience-sharing visits were held before the start of the war. During these, LVM introduced Ukrainian colleagues to the operation of tree nurseries, showing how container seedlings are grown in Latvia and sharing experience in nursery construction, as well as the use of information technology in forestry. AS Latvijas valsts meži remains ready to cooperate and share experience so that a high-value and high-quality forest seedling cultivation system can also be established in Ukraine. LVM will continue its active involvement in strengthening Europe's common security space and improving sustainable business models on a European scale, including by supporting Ukraine's integration into Europe.
