Following the successful completion of its PEFC RED II certification audit, AS “Latvijas valsts meži” has obtained Latvia's first PEFC RED II certificate (PEFC licence code: PEFC/12-31-005), confirming the company's ability to produce wood energy products sustainably and responsibly, and its commitment to continue doing so in the future.
PEFC RED II certification is a significant achievement that ensures compliance with the requirements of the European Union's Renewable Energy Directive (Renewable Energy Directive (EU) 2018/2001 – RED II), confirming that the biomass is of traceable, sustainable origin and meets environmental requirements. This means that LVM is not only promoting the development of renewable energy, but is also playing an active part in delivering the EU's plan to reduce carbon emissions and manage forest resources sustainably.
PEFC RED II certification has been designed to simplify the complex requirements of RED II, turning them into clear, comprehensible steps using standardised language based on ISO standards and the PEFC chain of custody standard, which is familiar to thousands of companies worldwide.

The PEFC RED II certificate is a further independent confirmation that LVM manages forest resources responsibly and sustainably.
An opportunity to buy wood chips
LVM has begun the process of selling wood fuel chips for the 2025/2026 heating season. Under the sales procedure, LVM is offering 650,000 loose m³ of wood fuel chips across the whole of Latvia, from which more than 550 thousand megawatt hours of heat energy can be produced.
