Yet forests, clean fresh water and undeveloped beaches, which in many places around the world have already become an unattainable luxury, are for us an everyday, self-evident matter. Latvia is one of the greenest, most ecologically clean and, as they now tend to say, sustainable countries in the world. I live in the centre of Riga. Sometimes on a hot summer day, it is difficult to decide where to go for a swim. For a visit to the sea, there are three options - Vecāķi, Bolderāja or Jūrmala. All of this can be reached in a mere half-hour! But then there is also Ķīšezers, Lake Bābelīte and the Daugava.

All around Riga there are forests, bogs and meadows. Talk to students from India, Uzbekistan and other Asian countries, who in recent years have been studying in Riga in increasing numbers - in their eyes, Latvia is a green paradise. Rural homesteads, the existence of which many Riga families remembered during the Covid-19 pandemic, have still been preserved in Latvia. Viewed from this perspective, it is only a matter of a few decades, or even years, before Latvia becomes one of the most desirable places to live on the planet. The question is - how to safeguard this politically, economically and demographically.
