Investing in forest fire protection

We planned to install surveillance cameras on 12 towers around Riga. Procurement began. This is all completely new; there are no such systems in Latvia. We announced a tender, and with the help of Riga Technical University, we devised how all of this could be tested.

Since the forests near Tukums are also "quite prone to burning", a dedicated forest fire station has been built in Tukums itself. To ensure it is comfortable for personnel, the station is equipped with household appliances. Currently, one "Unimox" fire engine is stationed there, but there is space for two.

Several aircraft have also been purchased – drones that analyse the situation from the air during a fire when smoke is everywhere.

For instance, this year, in cooperation with the armed forces, a helicopter was involved in fire suppression. Using coordinates received from a drone, it flew in and dropped water precisely where it was most needed. For this reason, only 3.5 ha were burnt.
