Indonesia plans to receive 56 million USD from Norway in support of the Southeast Asian nation's efforts to preserve its tropical rainforests and curb carbon dioxide emissions.

This sum of money is equivalent to 11.23 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, the emissions of which were prevented by reducing the scale of deforestation in 2017.

Indonesia is the latest country to receive a "results-based" target payment from Norway. This comes ten years after Norway's pledge to pay one billion USD for Indonesia's emissions reductions (in Indonesia, emissions are caused by active logging, deforestation and forest degradation).

Both countries have agreed to continue cooperation even after the contractual obligations expire.
