“Structure without a subject” – that is how the Bērvircava manor house, located in the Sesava parish of Jelgava municipality, is recorded in the Land Register. Research into the building indicates that the manor was built in 1698 and is potentially the oldest wooden structure of its kind in the Baltics. At present, the manor building is in very poor condition, and the Jelgava municipality intends to demolish it.

The origins of Bērvircava manor date back to the 15th century, when this land came into the possession of the von Hoven family as Vircava manor. Later, in the 19th century, Bērvircava manor was acquired by the von Behr family – Baroness Agnese von Behr and Baron Rihards von Behr. It was during this time that Vircava manor took on the name Bērvircava. In 1900, the manor still belonged to the von Behr family, but in 1912, it was purchased by Osvalds Tīlenbahs.
