In June of this year, an outbreak of the brown-tail moth (Euproctis chrysorrhoea) was observed for the first time in Zemgale, near Tērvete. The natural distribution range of this insect species includes Europe, northern Africa, and the Middle East. The brown-tail moth is a component of the Latvian fauna, but until now it had never multiplied on a mass scale.
