Today, 6 August, at 11:00, the Pēteris Čeveris National Partisan bunker, restored by the joint-stock company Latvijas valsts meži (LVM), will be opened in Vandzene.
The restored Pēteris Čeveris National Partisan bunker will be opened by Minister for Agriculture Kaspars Gerhards, LVM board member Edvīns Zakovics, historian Jānis Vasiļevskis, and Saeima member Ilze Indriksone.
Minister for Agriculture Kaspars Gerhards:
"Nowadays, it is particularly important to pay attention not only to the future, national development, and global trends, but also to preserve and protect our historical heritage. Restoring historical sites is a way for us to remember, commemorate, and also teach our children and future generations about past events and their significance. Therefore, while carrying out the bunker restoration works, it was essential to build not only a structure that would last as long as possible but also to preserve the bunker's authenticity – this has been achieved by building the structures from concrete, while the finish was created from half-logs."
Ivars Zorgenfreijs from the National Partisan Association will tell those present how the idea to restore the Pēteris Čeveris bunker arose, and LVM representatives will report on how the bunker restoration project was implemented. Talsi Municipality Council Chairperson Sandra Pētersone will also participate in the event.
