Saiga population in Kazakhstan has increased 2.5 times in two years

It is estimated that the number of the small steppe antelopes will have reached one million.

In 2015, a large number of these animals died from an infection caused by Pasteurella multocida, which spread quite rapidly in the climatic conditions of Kazakhstan. An additional threat to the antelope was poaching, to which the authorities only paid serious attention after a tragic event in 2019, when poachers killed two game wardens.
