150,000 hunters and farmers take to the streets in Madrid to protest against hunting bans

On 20 March, thousands of hunters and farmers took to the streets in the Spanish capital, Madrid, to protest against government policy. The aim of the march was to demonstrate their support for hunting and agriculture. Several issues triggered the protests. Firstly, there was opposition to the new Animal Protection Act, which grants animals rights similar to those of humans. Secondly, calls were made to remove the wolf from the list of protected species, as well as to lift the ban on turtle dove hunting. There was also a call to restore forestry in national parks.
It was pointed out that hunting bans would pose a threat to biodiversity, lead to an increase in road traffic accidents caused by wild animals, cause damage to agriculture, and increase the risk of the spread of various diseases.

All participants were encouraged to wear something orange, which is why this march is referred to as the orange army. The event was organised by the Royal Spanish Hunting Federation.
