From 2023, the redistribution of income support in favour of small and medium-sized farmers, introduced for the first time in Latvia, provides for all holdings to receive several times more support for the first 3.1-30 ha than for subsequent hectares. In total, over five years, 131.5 million euros have been allocated for support for up to 30 ha. By comparison, for the subsequent 30.1-100 ha, support totalling 22.1 million euros is planned to be paid.

Over the last four years, more than 30 million euros in support has been granted to small agricultural holdings, including, for the first time, additional support granted from the national budget. Over 3 years, this totalled 11 million euros from the national budget. We have also planned both EU and national support for small farmers for the coming years – totalling more than 35 million euros.

Small and medium-sized farms play a significant role in local food production, ensuring its quality and diversity. Moreover, it is also the foundation for the inhabitation of rural areas.
