zemeunvalsts.lv commentary

The decision has practically nothing to do with Latvia's large forest cat, nature conservation or anything else stated publicly. It is a continuation of a serious and deep lack of knowledge, understanding and foresight (sustainability) regarding what is happening around us. Panderings to a loud group of people, which also includes familiar faces but is seriously suffering from the aforementioned lack of knowledge (yet overflowing with emotion) and which replaces understanding with "rules, conclusions, checks", can already be seen in the medical field. If obvious problems can be felt there, is it necessary to transfer incompetence or implement it permanently in the field of nature conservation as well? Or is it already there and needs to be reinforced by stabilising the capacity for incompetence?

The State Forest Service will not set an allowable lynx hunting quota for the 2021/2022 hunting season and will not issue lynx hunting permits. This decision is linked to the change in the status of the lynx as a game species.
The State Forest Service (VMD) is the authority that oversees hunting, and its remit also includes setting the allowable hunting quota for limited game species. Hunting regulations state that lynx are limited game animals, and the VMD must set the allowable hunting quota for these animals every hunting season.
Given that amendments are planned to Cabinet of Ministers Regulation No. 396 "Regulations regarding the list of specially protected species and specially protected species with limited use", which will designate the Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) as a specially protected species, the VMD has decided not to set an allowable lynx hunting quota for this hunting season, and therefore will not issue lynx hunting permits.
