On 26 June, at a meeting of the Scientific Council of the Latvian State Forest Research Institute “Silava”, researcher Guntars Šņepsts was unanimously elected director of the institute by secret ballot.

Under the Law on Scientific Activity, the institute’s director oversees the scientific institution’s administrative, organisational and logistical operations, implements decisions taken by the Scientific Council, and represents the institute without requiring special authorisation.
