Protesters halted the plans of energy company Helen to unload a cargo of Russian coal at the Tammasaari quay. As confirmed to Yle by Helsinki police officers, ten protesters gathered at the quay, of whom police subsequently detained nine.
Jarmo Hagström (Hagström), manager of the Helen power plant in Salmisaari, explained to Yle that company employees had arrived at the quay and already begun work on unloading the ship, but the work was interrupted by the arrival of the protesters. According to J. Hagström, work on unloading the ship will continue once the situation has calmed down. Greenpeace is protesting against the actions of the company, which is owned by the City of Helsinki (Helen), for still importing coal from Russia, even though it was reported a month ago that coal imports from the aggressor state had been stopped.
