Scientists from the Institute for Environmental Solutions (VRI) and SIA “Field and Forest” are developing new cultivation methods for medicinal and aromatic plants in high demand on the global market – ginseng and Chinese angelica. Meanwhile, the company SIA “Bargi” will use these plants to develop new tea blends.

Global demand is rapidly increasing for medicinal plant products capable of replacing chemical medical and cosmetic products, as well as food items. Among the most sought-after medicinal plants in the world are ginseng (Panax spp.) and Chinese angelica (Angelica sinensis). VRI scientists are confident that Latvia’s meteorological and soil conditions are suitable for the cultivation of these medicinal and aromatic plants.
