A law passed in Russia, which stipulates that only domestically produced beverages may be sold as 'Champagne' on the Russian market, while all other drinks of this type must be labelled as 'sparkling wine', has caused great confusion in France. French winemakers believe that the products manufactured in Russia are cheap imitations of Champagne that are unworthy of bearing the name.
