In 2021, the Aģe Great Oak in the Vidriži parish won the selection for the "European Tree of the Year" contest with its story of being liberated as a "Power Oak", and it is the first tree from Latvia to be included in this international competition. Voting for the 2022 European Tree of the Year has now begun, with 16 European countries taking part, "Delfi" learned from the Forest Owners Association of Latvia. The vote is open until 28 February, and during the final week (from 22 to 28 February) it will be secret. This means that the current results will no longer be visible to voters.
For the first time, a tree growing in Latvia – the Aģe Great Oak – has been included in the vote for European Tree of the Year
