The Latvian forest sector is also experiencing a "fake news" situation. The purpose of this article is not to analyse its significance in our country's affairs. At least 7 state presidents and heads of government have done so previously in various public events that I have had the opportunity to attend, describing the forest sector as the backbone of our national economy, though each used different wording, of course. The basis for these words is secure – tens of percent in various macroeconomic indicators and product export volumes measured in billions of euros. A strong "backbone" creates security and a stable operating environment for everything else happening in the country, for the development of various other respected sectors and occupations, and for the country's growth as a whole. Therefore, the vulnerability of the forest sector is particularly dangerous!
"Fake news" and half-truths about Latvian forests and forestry – can we set things right?
