Estonian lynx are being shot in Latvia! This is claimed in the article “Don't shoot! I'm an Estonian! Peace in the neighbouring country, but no safety guaranteed for lynx in Latvia”, which was published on 8 January in "Delfi plus".

The article emphasises that in our northern neighbour, Estonia, lynx were, until recently, hunted more fervently than at home, but lynx hunting was banned three years ago.

Tõnis Korts, Executive Director of the Estonian Hunters' Society, is puzzled by such claims.

In the aforementioned article, Valdo Jahilo, a representative of the Estonian Environmental Agency, explains that hunting in Latvia is likely reducing the number of lynx in Estonia. On one hand, Latvians are shooting lynx that migrate from Estonia; on the other hand, a vacuum is being created in Latvia to replace those shot, which in turn could encourage young Estonian lynx to move to Latvia.
