In a joint project between the Nature Conservation Agency and the Institute of Biology at the University of Latvia, data were obtained this spring that will allow for the preparation of a scientific study on goose migration and its impact on agricultural crops, and will create the prerequisites for preventing conflicts between the agricultural sector and migratory geese.
The number of migratory geese in Europe continues to increase thanks to effective conservation measures, but this has also led to an increase in damage caused by the birds to agriculture. For the sensible and balanced prevention of damage, it is necessary to know the locations where geese and swans stay during their spring migration in Latvia.
