The Laugalis family, fishermen for several generations in the Liepāja area, have had to find new ways to stay “afloat” and develop within a changing natural and business environment. Many stories of successful businesses have something in common – it is the ability of enterprising people to spot opportunities and not be afraid to try doing either something entirely new, or to do the same old thing, just in a new way. Two generations of the Laugalis family have trodden a path of development, both by sticking to the fishing industry and, through their own efforts and with European Union support, by entering the new sectors of fish processing, restaurants and tourism, not only operating in coastal fishing but also giving a new lease of life to historic Liepāja.
