Climate science should be less political, but climate policy more scientific

In particular, scientists should emphasise that their modelling results are not the product of magic: computer models are made by humans. The result is entirely dependent on what theorists and programmers have built in: hypotheses, assumptions, relationships, parameterisation, stability constraints, etc. Unfortunately, in climate science, the majority of these inputs are obscure.

To believe a climate model's result is to believe what the model-makers have input. This is precisely the problem of modern climate discussions, in which climate models are central. Climate science has devolved into a discussion based on belief, not on sound, self-critical science. We should rid ourselves of the naive belief in immature climate models, and in the future, place much greater emphasis on empirical science in climate research.

There is no climate emergency

This urgent message has been prepared by more than 1,800 scientists and professionals. Climate science should be less political, but climate policy more scientific. Scientists should openly address the uncertainties and exaggerations in global warming predictions, while politicians should objectively calculate the real costs, as well as the imagined benefits, of their policy measures.

Warming is caused by both natural and anthropogenic factors

The geological record shows that Earth's climate has changed for as long as the planet has existed, with natural cold and warm phases. The Little Ice Age ended only in 1850. It is no surprise that we are currently experiencing a warming period.

Warming is occurring much more slowly than predicted

The world has warmed significantly less than the IPCC predicted based on the impact of modelled anthropogenic factors. The gap between the real world and the modelled world shows that we are far from understanding climate change.

Climate policy relies on inadequate models.

Climate models have many shortcomings and are not plausible as global policy tools. They exaggerate the effect of greenhouse gases such as CO. Moreover, they ignore the fact that enriching the atmosphere with CO is beneficial.

CO is plant food

CO is not a pollutant. It is essential to all life on Earth. Photosynthesis is a blessing. More CO is favourable for nature, greening the Earth: additional CO in the air has promoted an increase in global plant biomass. It is also beneficial to agriculture, increasing crop yields worldwide.

Global warming has not increased the number of natural disasters

There is no statistical evidence that global warming is intensifying hurricanes, floods, droughts, and similar natural disasters or making them more frequent. However, there is plenty of evidence that measures to reduce CO emissions are as harmful as they are costly.

Climate policy must respect scientific and economic reality

There is no climate emergency. Therefore, there is no cause for panic or alarm. We strongly oppose the harmful and unrealistic CO net-zero policy proposed for 2050. If better approaches emerge, and they certainly will, we have plenty of time to reconsider and adapt. The aim of global policy should be prosperity for all, by providing reliable and affordable energy at all times. In a prosperous society, men and women are well-educated, birth rates are low and people care about the environment.
