In Santa Claus's homeland, many people head into the forest themselves to get a tree. Nowadays, when choosing a tree, many think not only about traditions but also about the carbon footprint left by the tree. What is best? If a suitable tree is growing nearby, it is sensible to choose it. In other cases, an artificial one will be more appropriate and climate-friendly.

In 2021, a significant number of festive trees were already purchased. It is estimated that around 300 million Christmas trees are sold annually in Europe and the USA. Opinions on which species is better, what needle colour is preferred, and how many branches a tree needs vary, but one choice divides people into two not-entirely-reconcilable camps – what to choose: a natural or a plastic tree. For example, in the USA, only one in four Christmas trees is real. However, in Santa Claus's homeland of Finland, approximately 1/4 of households have artificial trees.
