My attention was drawn to two interviews with very different people who essentially are talking about the same thing – the need for a sensible, responsible policy based on a long-term perspective.
...it is about the damage that populism, unprofessionalism, the pursuit of quick results, and the blatant disregard for the system and reasonable rules of the game, as well as a lack of foresight, cause or can cause in politics. In both cases, there is frustration with what is happening, as well as a stated desire for much, much better governance. The only difference is that Pauls Timrots is interviewed about the manifestations of the Riga City Council, elected last year for a five-year term, in the field of transport, while Uldis Pīlēns is interviewed more about state-level governance, including in the context of next year's scheduled Saeima elections.
