On 1 April 2020, the Institute of Horticulture began participating in the research project "Approval of propagation technologies for sweet cherry (Cerasus avium Moench. syn. Prunus avium L.) and selection of the most promising clones for establishing productive timber plantations in Latvian climatic conditions" (project number 19-00-A01620-000088).

Project goal: By selecting the most promising clones of sweet cherry (Cerasus avium Moench. Syn. Prunus avium L.), to develop vegetative propagation technologies (cuttings, tissue cultures) for clones and establish trial plantations for field testing the frost resistance of the most promising local and foreign clones suitable for timber and fruit processing.
