Construction of the new “Stiga RM” wood wool cement board factory in Tukums is proceeding according to plan, with an agreement reached with the Italian manufacturer “SCM Group S.p.A” on the supply and installation of high-technology production equipment. Over the coming months, the supplier will deliver a wide range of production equipment worth several million euros, so that by the end of next year the 15 thousand square metre plant can begin operating, providing almost 100 new jobs and the production of high-value timber products primarily for export markets.

“We are pleased that construction of the new plant is proceeding according to plan and in some stages is even ahead of the original schedule – if at the start of construction the factory was due to open in the first half of 2026, the plans now clearly point to the end of next year as the date when Tukums municipality will be one manufacturing company richer,” emphasises Sandis Fogelmanis, manager of the “Stiga RM” wood wool cement board factory.

Construction work on the factory building is due to be completed in full this autumn. Access roads have also been built, the timber yard has been asphalted, an office building and a boiler house have been constructed, and sewerage, water and electricity supply systems have been provided. The next important step is the delivery, installation and integration of the equipment and the start of the production process.

“The new factory is expected to be the most modern wood wool cement board, or WWCB (wood wool cement board), factory in the world, with a technological solution and level of robotisation not currently found anywhere else. We have set ourselves major and ambitious goals, and we therefore allowed sufficient time before the factory is commissioned to ensure that the production process is efficient, as precise as possible and fully refined,” notes Sandis Fogelmanis.

Thanks to innovative and powerful technologies, the factory will be able to produce up to 4.5 million square metres of wood wool acoustic boards each year. This high-value, people- and environmentally friendly, CO₂-neutral timber production will mainly be exported to European, Scandinavian and North American countries, though the growing market will offer opportunities to sell this product worldwide.

Total investment in the development of the new plant will exceed 32 million euros.
