On one hand, Latvia is already very green, as we have hydroelectric power plants that make a good contribution to the overall green energy system, but we also see good potential in the fields of wind and solar energy. Regarding solar energy production, support is provided by EU structural funds for both legal entities and private individuals. Through the support mechanisms promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture via the Rural Support Service, support for solar energy production is also available to farmers. The first rounds of investment for solar energy support are already open. Unfortunately, it is currently determined at the EU level that support is only provided for the portion produced for self-consumption; however, we would like to ensure that support also covers the portion that exceeds self-consumption and enters the general grid. We have submitted this proposal for consideration to the European Commission, which would allow us to be more flexible on this matter. Regarding wind energy, a synergy effect is very important - primarily, it must integrate into the overall energy system and be sufficiently powerful. Currently, a joint project between Latvenergo and Enefit Green in the Baltic Sea near the border of the two countries is becoming quite concrete. There are a number of projects planned for development on land. There were legal discussions with local governments there, but they are already drawing to a close. In my opinion, wind energy projects could be very well developed in cooperation with Latvijas valsts meži (LVM). I would like to remind you that forests cover about half of the country's entire territory, and LVM manages half of the total forest area.
