Global ecosystems are under threat. Wildfires have turned forests in California and lowlands in Argentina and Brazil into charred landscapes. Oceans are becoming warmer and nitrogen-rich, their colours are fading, while the reefs of the Seychelles have become teeming with fish. Soil depletion, caused by the excessive use of mineral fertilisers and pesticides, is disrupting long-term agricultural economic and ecological plans in China.

Productive agriculture, climate change and fishing volumes are a specific threat to any landscape. But: all types of ecosystem degradation have one thing in common - damage to an ecosystem also affects the economy, biodiversity and the climate.
