Wind power plant park to be built in Jelgava Municipality

Jelgava Municipality Council, as well as Jelgava City Council deputies, have approved the plans of peat extraction and processing company SIA "Laflora" to build a wind power plant park in the Kaigu peat bog in Līvbērze parish.

For 25 years, one of Latvia's largest peat extraction and processing companies, "Laflora", has been operating in the Kaigu bog in Jelgava Municipality, employing 290 local residents to produce peat substrates for horticulture, forestry, and agriculture. Peat extraction in the Kaigu bog will conclude in the coming years, which is why other land use options are being explored, with the development of a wind power park now planned.

The company's Chairman of the Board, Uldis Ameriks, informed Jelgava Municipality Council deputies about the plans related to the progress of the wind park, as well as the concept of the Kaigu bog Green Industrial Zone, at the end of August. Accordingly, in September, after receiving a positive statement from the State Environmental Service (VPVB) regarding the "Environmental impact assessment report for the construction of the "Laflora" wind power plant park in Līvbērze parish, Jelgava Municipality", the company submitted an application for the planned construction of the wind power plant park.
