Small Australian marsupial saved from extinction

The bilby, often also called a rabbit-eared bandicoot, is a small, furry marsupial in Australia. Its population declined significantly in the last century as the small creatures were preyed upon by foxes and their habitats underwent changes. 30 years of work have culminated in success: the number of bilbies has increased from 150 to ~1500.
