Park being created at the Faculty of Forest and Environmental Sciences

A unique environmental space featuring opportunities for both recreation and self-education is currently being developed at the Faculty of Forest and Environmental Sciences (MVZF) of the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU), the local government reports.

The Dean of the MVZF, Linards Sisenis, points out that 2.2 million euros have been invested in the development of the faculty's infrastructure over the last five years, and construction work is currently underway both on the faculty grounds and inside the building as part of the third phase of infrastructure improvement.

By combining traditional landscaping solutions with wood materials, a unique educational environmental facility is being created in the faculty courtyard, which will be accessible to all interested parties. L. Sisenis explains that pedestrian paths have already been paved on the faculty grounds, which will ensure convenient access to the area in the future and facilitate movement for people with special needs. In the lawn area of the park, paths covered with an ecological material – wood chips – are being laid, and the grass is being restored.

“The reconstruction of the faculty’s entrance area is still in the construction process – foundations are being concreted to install entrance blocks designed from glued timber structures. A historical element will also be incorporated into the paved entrance area – a granite foundation stone from the bank building that stood on this site before the Second World War. In the near future, landscaping work will continue with the installation of flagpoles, bicycle racks, and waste bins along the paved paths, as well as the placement of benches and information boards,” notes L. Sisenis, emphasising that in total, every park visitor will be able to expand their knowledge about forestry through four information boards, including the Latvian forest industry, forest diversity and management, as well as flora and fauna.

The project is being implemented with funding provided by the Forest Development Fund of the Ministry of Agriculture.
