List of invasive alien species developed and assessment of their prevalence underway

Daugavpils University, the Nature Conservation Agency, the State Plant Protection Service, "Dabas koncertzāle" and partners from Lithuania and Belarus continue to implement the Latvia-Lithuania-Belarus cross-border cooperation programme project No. ENI-LLB-1-077 "Integrated management and action plan to reduce the negative impact of invasive alien species in protected areas in the cross-border region".

The total funding for the EU project is 504,351.84 euros, which will be directed towards the creation of a methodological basis for complex invasive species management, the implementation of practical measures for the eradication of Sosnowsky's hogweed in border protected areas, informing the general public, landowners and municipal staff about invasive species, as well as improving the technical capacity of organisations participating in solving the invasive species problem.

Within the framework of the project, a unified network of monitoring points will be established in 18 protected areas across Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus for the control of the spread of invasive species in the cross-border region. In Latvia, monitoring will take place in 12 areas: Teiči Nature Reserve, Rāzna National Park, "Adamovas ezers" Nature Park, "Aiviekstes paliene" Nature Park, "Sauka" Nature Park, "Bauska" Nature Park, "Grebļukalns" Nature Reserve, "Lubana mitrajs" Nature Reserve, "Skujaines un Svētaines ieleja" Nature Reserve, "Ojatu ezers" Nature Reserve, the "Augšdaugava" Protected Landscape Area, and the "Blankenfeldes muižas aleja" Nature Park and protected alley.
