The Latvian Beekeepers Association has declared the buff-tailed bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) the insect of the year. It is a good idea for cottage owners to purchase bumblebee colonies. While they do not produce honey, they also require no maintenance. Furthermore, they will pollinate plants in both greenhouses and open fields.
