As confirmation of the high quality of the sector's management and information system governance in administering EU and national support for agriculture, forestry and fisheries, the Ministry of Agriculture and four of its subordinate institutions have this year obtained ISO 9001 sector management system and ISO 27001 information security management system certificates.

When I started out in the forestry business more than 25 years ago, there was no shortage of sceptics claiming that all of Latvia's forests had already been felled and that this business was finished. A considerable rainfall deficit has been observed in the north-western regions of the Iberian Peninsula, in south-western France, in southern Romania, in most of Bulgaria and Greece, and in the Black Sea coastal region. Forest fires broke out in many of these regions. zm.gov.lv

Local authorities will be granted new rights not to adopt a decision approving the development of wind projects if wind farms of at least 150 MW are already being built in the territory of that authority, or if the total capacity of wind projects in the planning region is 500 MW. kem.gov.lv

In view of information made public that Rīga City Council has rejected farmers' request to allow grain to be transported to the ports more expeditiously, Minister of Agriculture Armands Krauze urges that the government's decision of 5 August to declare a state of emergency in agriculture throughout Latvia be taken into account and that farmers be accommodated in these difficult working conditions.zm.gov.lv

According to the weather forecasts, heavy rain in Latvia will continue over the coming days. The harvest season has begun but the weather is not improving, and so the Ministry of Agriculture is extending indefinitely the period for registering rain-flooded agricultural land with the Rural Support Service.zm.gov.lv

The threshing of spring crops – wheat, barley and oats – has also begun in all regions of Latvia. Spring crops sown earlier had developed a stronger root system and thus a higher yield potential. In crops sown later, by contrast, the roots have been significantly starved of air because of excessive moisture and the plants are weaker, forming shorter ears and reducing ear productivity.db.lv

If plant protection products are not registered in Latvia, they do not have labelling in Latvian, they have not been tested and they are not intended for Latvian climatic conditions, it is prohibited to distribute and use them in Latvia.
