This year, 19 wolf attacks on livestock have been recorded in Latvia. The predators do not discriminate: lambs, calves or other prey. As the number of attacks increases, and since there is no provision for compensation in Latvia for this purpose, some farmers do not report wolf attacks to the State Forest Service, but try to resolve the problem themselves.

Farmer Sergejs Ščedrovs from Eglaine parish is one of the largest sheep breeders in Latvia; wolves "visit" his flock almost every year. Usually, this happens in mid-summer, when mother wolves take their offspring out for "training". For example, 15 years ago, 22 sheep were killed in an overnight enclosure.
