The former idea of wolves living alongside humans has turned into an unpleasant nightmare for more than a few Alpine residents. One or two wolves spotted roaming in the distance in the mountains might be a good sign - if we remember that a century ago the grey wolf was on the verge of extinction, now the wolf in the mountains points to the restoration of balance in nature and the recovery of biodiversity. It is quite another matter when a pack of wolves wanders through Alpine villages, lurking near mountain paths for children on their way to school.
