On 8 February, the European Commission unveiled a multi-billion euro plan to boost semiconductor production in Europe, which is a response to both economic and geopolitical concerns related to trade tensions between the USA and China.
"Securing the supply of the most advanced chips has become an economic and geopolitical priority," EU Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton said at a press conference. The European Union's plans aim to capture 20% of the market for chips and semiconductors by 2030.
