The Scientific Council of LVMI "Silava" has assessed the audit arguments included in the State Audit Office's report, noting that there have been "intense public discussions" in the public sphere. In a tense and polarised society, there will always be different, even diametrically opposed, sharp and radical views on every issue; unfortunately, these will increasingly attract followers, and their authors will be less and less interested in facts, data and arguments.

Neither hunting, angling, nor mushroom and berry picking (gathering) should be considered necessary activities for human survival today. Similarly, it should not be assumed that the process of hunting or angling is only justifiable if it prevents threats to other public interests. Neither the Eurasian lynx, nor the brown trout, nor even a small crucian carp in a back-garden pond, caught by a boy or a little girl, poses a direct threat to society, but as game or a catch, they hold immense, irreplaceable value in the lives of a sufficiently large part of society.
