Will climate change take away our festive Christmas tree?

Currently, a strategy is being developed in Latvia to achieve climate neutrality for the period up to 2050, with the aim of creating incentives for the transition to low-carbon development, taking into account environmental, economic, and social aspects. However, the climate is changing faster than humanity's efforts to halt these changes. This also implies a need to adapt to climate change across various sectors of the economy, including forestry. "In the context of climate change, the world speaks of risks, but issues concerning opportunities are rarely addressed. There are also opportunities for Latvian forestry," acknowledges Jurģis Jansons, director of the Latvian State Forest Research Institute Silava.
