After the Second World War, many an American took their newly purchased car and headed along the highway to the suburbs and commuter towns. It was a time when life in America changed rapidly. Nowadays, the internet and remote working are pushing for similar changes, encouraging people not to choose a place to live close to work. A two-hour commute a few days a week could make one rethink the option of living in a larger house while paying a smaller mortgage. It is estimated that, thanks to remote working, 14-23 million Americans could change their place of residence.
