Who is 'Mednis' for? Hunters or VMD inspectors?

Hunters are also clients of the State Forest Service (VMD). In the past, there was much better and closer cooperation with both inspectors and other VMD staff. There were meetings where the VMD informed and educated hunters on all issues related to hunting. That no longer happens. I understand that everyone is supposed to read the regulatory documents themselves, but how many people actually do that? It is better if it is explained, and by someone from the outside, not just the club leader. What they say stays in one's memory longer. Surely it is not that difficult to organise meetings, and the prevention work would be carried out much better.

We must talk about violations. Yes, it is perhaps not advantageous for inspectors to reveal their favourite 'hobbyhorses' for which they initiate cases, or they might end up without a 'tick' on their record when returning from an inspection. An inspector's performance indicators must, of course, be measurable. And one of the most objective ones is if the number of accidents is zero. I also used to work as an inspector and issued protocols. I have seen various violations, but I have always said that the most important thing is that there are no problems related to the use of firearms. And that worked – one must talk to the hunters.

Mednis does not solve the safety issue. We are seen by those who check us, but we do not see each other. Of course, the ability to see the locations of hunters in Mednis would be very expensive.

However, for now, we must observe how Mednis functions, but an alternative option is also needed, especially when the app begins to be used by all hunters, particularly during driven hunts when everyone will be doing so simultaneously on a Saturday morning.
