Forests can be compared to a cake that grows larger the more you eat it. Since 1990, the volume of wood in European forests has increased by 50%! Both timber harvesting volumes and forest-covered areas have also increased. Industries based on renewable wood resources continue to create and generate new ideas, materials, and methods of use.
According to the State of Europe's Forests report*, wood volumes in Europe, excluding Russia, have increased by 50% (since 1990), with forest areas also having grown by 9%. The total forest area is 227 million hectares, which accounts for 35% of Europe's land area.
