Europe has strived for a long time and travelled a long and complex road to implement the liberalisation of energy markets and to establish the intended market models for gas and electricity. The core idea – to promote competition as much as possible wherever feasible, by creating a framework that removes all possible obstacles to competition and fosters incentives for investments aimed at new players entering the market. Thereby, by forcing suppliers to compete, ensuring the most advantageous energy resource offers for the European consumer.

In parallel, Europe has embarked on and continues to pursue an increasingly ambitious 'green energy' course to replace conventional (fossil) energy sources with renewables wherever possible. The strategic goal – to become energy independent – is entirely noble and worth supporting, but it is important to implement it adequately, otherwise we end up like the saying about the road paved with good intentions...
