The name Līčupe probably won't mean much to the average person familiar with Latvia. It is a small settlement in Vidzeme, in the Mazozoli parish near Ērgļi, situated in a picturesque setting by the Ogre River valley, and it takes its name from the nearby flowing Līčupe – a tributary of the Ogre. A story circulates here that the most beautiful of all the Ogre River bridges was once located by the Ogre River HES. It is said to have been designed for the Ogre town resort, but was built by mistake in 1906 in another location, near the Ogre manor. Were the construction sites really mixed up?
