On 23 September 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft regulation prepared by the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development (VARAM) on state support for the aquaculture, crop farming, livestock farming and beekeeping sectors, in order to compensate landowners and land users for losses caused by specially protected non-game species and migratory species.

The draft regulation provides for the payment of compensation, including for significant damage caused in 2025 in the agricultural and aquaculture sectors. The most frequent damage is caused by geese to field bean and winter wheat crops and by bears to apiaries, while cormorants cause losses in the aquaculture sector.

The Nature Conservation Agency has already received 70 compensation applications for crop damage, as well as 13 applications from the beekeeping and livestock farming sectors. These applications will be reviewed and decisions taken as soon as the regulations enter into force. Meanwhile, around 31 applications from the aquaculture sector must still await European Commission approval for the granting of the support.
