In the Sumy region of Ukraine, a vehicle carrying local forestry workers has been fired upon. A source in law enforcement agencies provided further details about this tragic event to the publication Strana.ua.
“The tragedy occurred on 13 June around midday near the village of Huta. The forestry workers were travelling in an official vehicle approximately one kilometre from the state border, where they were fired upon with small arms. As a result, six people died: 48-year-old forester Sergey Volkov, 33-year-old assistant forester Ivan Romanchenko, 35-year-old forester Andrey Burakov, 31-year-old Aleksandr Glushenko, 33-year-old Sergey Zabolotny and 50-year-old Andrey Mikhaylenko.”
The source also added that law enforcement officers have arrived at the scene, but inspection of the site is difficult.
“It turned out that the bodies of the deceased had been blown up, and the site of the tragedy is being monitored by enemy drones. Near the scene of the shooting, an enemy ambush was discovered, where tactical scissors, 5.45 and 7.62 calibre cartridges, and spent machine-gun belts were found, which indicates that a sabotage group has infiltrated Ukrainian territory,” the source said.
Law enforcement officials established that the shooting took place between approximately 13:15 and 14:20, with a total of 21 shots recorded. The Prosecutor's Office is conducting a pre-trial investigation into the violation of the laws and customs of war combined with premeditated murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The Prosecutor's Office noted that, according to the information at its disposal, there were 2 civilians and 4 forestry workers in the vehicle who sustained fatal injuries.
In May, the deputy head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Vyacheslav Pechenenko, reported that following the deaths of regional energy company employees while performing their official duties, the military administration had issued a new order: all emergency and utility services within a 5 km border zone may only operate with the permission of the military command.
